The orthopaedic surgical research group is doing clinical research on a considerable number of patients every year.

The group commands specialist knowledge in the testing of new treatment strategies and methods.

Currently the research group is doing 25 randomized studies with Aarhus Sygehus as the central organizer.

We have gained great experience in imaging modalities including DEXA scanning, PET-CT, radio stereometric analysis (RSA), CT, MR, ultrasound and walk analysis. In the clinical department two full-time laboratory technicians are taking care of the analysis and co-ordination.

At Aahus Sygehus we have created the national orthopaedic surgical joint database consisting of Dansk Hoftealloplastik Register (The Danish Hip Alloplastic Register) , Dansk Knæalloplastik Register (The Danish Knee Alloplastic Register), Dansk Skulderalloplastik Register (The Danish Shoulder Alloplastic Register), ACL Registeret (The ACL Register) and Ganz Databasen (The Ganz Database). More than one hundred thousand patients with up to ten years follow-up are registered in these databases. Starting from the databases the research group has already made several publications.

To support the clinical research we have a long tradition of experimental research. Knowledge from our experimental studies are often implemented in clinical randomized studies for final verification. Our experimental research lab consists of modern facilities for hard tissue preparation, stem cell research, gene therapy, etc. The lab is manned by four skilled laboratory technicians and a molecular biologist.
